MB Bäuerle presents its new line of inserting machines

With the new line of inserting machines autoSET B4 MB Bäuerle now presents a system that features a high degree of variability combined with top-level operator convenience. The inserting system can handle all formats from DL to B4.

The modular design makes it possible to adapt the inserting system to individual needs. With feeding systems for cut sheet and continuous forms, the autoSET B4 is usable as a system machine or for the realization of complex tasks. The document track is also of modular design and can be extended to up to 12 insert stations. Suction, friction or rotary feeders are available for inserting, depending on the type of inserts. For this reason the range of materials that can be handled without any difficulties is very wide. Different camera systems for all common readings such as OMR, barcode or datamatrix can be used. Addressing modules and postage meter modules as well as stitching devices can be integrated in the system as optional equipment.

The outstanding feature of the autoSET technology is the complete automation. All settings are made at the ergonomically placed touch-screen displays. Easy-to-understand icons for operator guidance facilitate the handling of the machine. Simply touching the symbols on the screen will change settings or reconfigure the entire system. Interruptions in the workflow are visualized by means of symbols or in plain language. The operator is alerted well in advance when the number of envelopes or inserts falls below a minimum quantity. Operating and production data as well as diagnostics can be called up anytime. Set-up instructions for repetitive jobs – e.g. for code reading, collecting, folding, format setting, speeds, and control functions can be saved and recalled, reducing set-up times to a minimum.The manual settings normally needed for changing a job are automated in the autoSET B4. One tap on the touch-screen calls up a job from the memory, and the setting automation takes care of set-up processes at the following modules:

• 4-fold-plate fold unit                                   • Enveloping station
• Document track                                          • Sealing station
• Insert stations                                             • Diverter
• Envelope loader

Each station may be addressed separately for format setting. Sensors for double and missing sheet control, for monitoring material levels and paper flow help guarantee trouble-free system operation. Selective insert feeding and tandem operation is available for all stations. Envelope size changes are totally automated. The operator enters the dimensions for height, width and flap depth. The control unit calculates the positions for the envelope loader and the enveloping and sealing stations which are then set up automatically. Control devices monitor all work cycles. Improperly or not completely opened envelopes are recognized and diverted without disrupting system operation. The intelligent tracking system makes sure that no errors occur during the personalized inserting process. Monitoring and control devices are tracking each document over its entire path. The system always knows where each document is and which insert from which station has to be added to an individual collation.

The magazine of the envelope loader is easily accessible and disposes of a high pre-stacking capacity. Even thin and difficult materials can be processed as a result of the specific separating principle.

An optional Ethernet-interface allows integration into internal networks for data transfer for machine set-up and for production data acquisition of the current production.
